Romanian Red Cross – Branch Bucharest District 5
Completion of the European Project MOBILISE
– A Model of Innovation for Public Health
Bucharest, September 30, 2025
The Romanian Red Cross Branch Bucharest District 5 announces the successful conclusion of the European project MOBILISE, a landmark initiative to strengthen prevention and response capacity against infectious diseases, with major impact on public health at local, national, and European levels.
A Mobile “One Health” Laboratory – From Concept to Reality
MOBILISE developed an innovative mobile “One Health” laboratory solution, able to process human, animal, and environmental samples and equipped with a genomic sequencing platform for the rapid identification of pathogens. The laboratory represents a decisive step forward in the prevention and management of infectious disease outbreaks, while also contributing to European objectives of resilience and public health.
Community Engagement and Extended Collaboration
Throughout the project, the Red Cross Branch Bucharest District 5 carried out dozens of information, training, and testing activities in Bucharest and within the surrounding areas, including Văcărești Natural Park, Comana Park, and the Danube Delta. Events such as “Junior Senate,” the “Water Rescue” camp in Giurgiu, presentations at the Botanical Garden, and participation within the National Microbiology and Epidemiology Conferences contributed to accurate public information, education, and to strengthening trust in science and health.
The project brought together numerous institutional partners – the Ministry of Health, the National Institute of Public Health, the Department for Emergency Situations, the “Dealul Spirii” Bucharest-Ilfov Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, as well as universities and research institutes – offering a model of collaboration between authorities, the scientific community, and the civil society.
Key Results
- Creation and testing of a state-of-the-art mobile laboratory for diagnostics and rapid response.
- Training and involvement of specialized volunteers in field activities, simulations, and data collection.
- Development of a network of national and European partnerships, ensuring the long-term sustainability of proposed solutions.
- Promotion of a culture of prevention through dedicated campaigns and large public events.
